NAMI KAGAMI
DANCER
Nami Kagami is a native of Japan who began her dance training at the age of three under the guidance of Masako Kaji. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with honors and a minor in Sociology from Hofstra University and continued her professional training at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and Peridance Center.
Ms. Kagami joined the Rod Rodgers Dance Company shortly after graduating and is among the last generation of dancers to have worked directly with Rod Rodgers prior to his passing in 2002. She is currently a Principal Dancer and Assistant Director, contributing to the preservation of the company’s artistic legacy through the management of its archival materials. She has also played a key role in developing the company’s Youth Program since its inception in 2002 and continues to teach ballet and modern dance.
In addition to her work with the company, Ms. Kagami is a dedicated teaching artist with over twenty years of experience. She currently teaches with ArtsConnection, Arts for All, and New York City Center, focusing on accessible, inclusive, and community-centered dance practices. She also facilitates dance and movement programs for older adults, centering creativity, accessibility, and community care. Her classes support physical well-being, self-expression, and meaningful social connection through collaborative movement experiences.
