Rod Rodgers Dance Company creates stunning educational experiences for kids in the New York City Area Schools.

The Rod Rogers Dance Company creates programs for students and teachers in the Tri-State Area Schools to make dance theater understandable and accessible to young audiences who are not always exposed to such culture. This is different than just putting on concerts.

We have various levels of commitment from concerts and Lecture Demonstration to Master Classes and Workshops and Residencies. Combinations of assembly programs and workshops are offered as vehicles for positive dialogue and instruction about a variety of subjects. The opportunity to participate in non-competitive rhythmic and creative movement exercises is a valuable experience for students.

Our signature series of contemporary Rhythmdances, Jazz Studies and uplifting tributes to Black Heroes, are well received by enthusiastic audiences of all ages. We celebrate and marvel at the openness of youngsters to the many ideas that can be expressed through dance, stimulating the exploration and interpretation of important and timeless issues.

Opportunities to combine (participatory) workshops with Lecture-Demonstrations in many schools provide a basis for students' physically exploring basic ideas and techniques employed in our dance, which has always been an interdisciplinary form. Also, it is a chance to see artists in performances that require a combination of athletic, dramatic and music abilities. Approach to dance study can provide helpful contexts for exploring a variety of vocabulary concepts, i.e. diagonal, pivotal, alternate, variation, opposite, expand, spin, spiral, interpret, improvise, etc, that can be made vivid in creative movement workshops, contributing to understanding new vocabulary while enhancing appreciation of different cultures.
